The University of Nottingham

Over the last five years The University of Nottingham has invested more than £200 million in buildings and equipment, creating an environment where study and research can thrive and where staff and students can get the most from their work and leisure time.

The University of Nottingham's position as a world-class University is confirmed by its ranking in the global league tables. In the latest QS University Rankings (2014), we are placed 77th in the world, earning us a place in the top 1% of universities worldwide. In the UK, Nottingham was 23rd (The Complete University Guide 2015), 22nd (The Times Good University Guide 2015), and 28th (The Guardian University Guide). This means we are consistently ranked in the UK’s top 30 universities every year. We were also rated No. 8 for research power in the latest Research Excellence Framework. Other notable achievements include being given the University of the Year award in 2014, as well as the Entrepreneurial University of the Year award.

The University of Nottingham was first granted its Royal Charter in 1948, having been previously known as Nottingham’s first civic college, which was opened in 1881. Since then, it has gone on to expand around the world, opening international campuses in Malaysia in 2000 and in China in 2005. In 2006, it unveiled a new school in the UK, the Sutton Bonington campus, dedicated to Veterinary Science

Applicants flock here from all over the world. At present, the student population at Nottingham stands at around 43,000, students coming from more than 150 countries.

These students are spread out across a range of campuses, University Park being the largest of them - a staggering 300 acres. Because of its rich history, this part of the university is widely regarded as one of the most attractive in the country, boasting beautiful period architecture, extensive greenery and a wonderful lake. At the same time, the campus hosts various modern and state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, with a further 12 halls of residence, a conference and exhibition centre, sports facilities and the Lakeside Arts Centre.

Travel about one mile away from the University Park campus and you reach the Jubilee Campus, opened by Her Majesty the Queen in 1999. This campus houses the Schools of Education, Contemporary Chinese Studies and Computer Science; the Nottingham University Business School; the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children’s Services; a sports centre; University of Nottingham Innovation Park. There are 4000 purpose-built student residences located within half a mile radius of the campus. The campus has receives praise and awards for its environmetally-friendly nature, including the Millennium Marque Award for Environmental Excellence and the British Construction Industry Building Project of the Year.

Other campuses include those dedicated to medical and veterinary science: the Medical School, the Sutton Bonington campus, and University Hospital Sites. These are all fully-equipped for students conducting research or training to go into medical and science-related fields of study and/or work. The Sutton Bonington campus covers 100 acres in the countryside, with excellent access by road, rail and air. Not only does it house the most up-to-date teaching and research facilities but also has over 700 bedrooms, a new sports centre, library and various retail and catering outlets

At The University of Nottingham we are committed to providing a truly international education, inspiring our students, producing world-leading research and benefitting the communities around our campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia. Our purpose is to improve life for individuals and societies worldwide. By bold innovation and excellence in all that we do, we make both knowledge and discoveries matter.
