Europe’s leading and most connected music institute, BIMM Institute, has announced its new range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses for 2020 – accredited for the first time, by the institute itself. Each course has been developed by working with the music industry to find out what they need from the next generation of professionals.
The new courses, which include non-performance based subjects such as Event Management, Music Business, Music Marketing and Electronic Music Production, as well as performance degrees including Bass, Drums and Vocals, have been developed with the music industry to give students the best possible job prospects, post-degree.
Adam Carswell, Chief Executive Officer and Head of Institution, says: “We are incredibly proud of our new courses and hugely grateful to the 50+ music industry professionals who gave up their time to work with us to craft this new suite of courses. Their deep understanding of the skills required to succeed in today’s music industry was the key to the development of our courses. This direct input from the music industry pushes our students a step closer to the career they want, confident in the knowledge that they are equipped with the skills needed to make it in this exciting and competitive industry.”
BIMM Institute pride themselves on being closely connected to the music industry. From expert lecturers – many of whom combine their teaching roles with an active role in the business – to having Tony Wadsworth CBE (who was chairman and CEO of EMI Music UK and Ireland Label) on their management team, as a non-executive director. This means that music industry expertise is built into the DNA of BIMM Institute at every level.
"I just wish something like this had been around when I was a teenager desperately trying to think of a way into the music industry.”- Julie Weir, Label Head at Sony Music
Many of the current students and alumni chose BIMM Institute for their close-knit links to the industry, so the new degrees (written and validated by BIMM Institute) hope to further strengthen the skills students leave BIMM Institute with, meaning they’ll have a higher chance of employment. Many within the music industry have already commented on BIMM Institute’s accreditation and how it will positively shape the futures of its students, as well as transform education options for those seeking a more vocational career.
